MOTOROLA MOTO G

Motorola knocked our socks off with the orginal MOTO G. It was an incredibly low priced smartphone that delivered great performance. Now, Motorola has improved on that recipe with the MOTO G 2014 Motorola knows the specs race isn't everything, so lots of the internal specs remain the same between the two generations, but three key additions have been made in the new Moto G (2014): micro SD expansion, a better camera and stereo front-facing speakers. Thanks to the very minimal changes that Motorola makes to stock android, the new Moto G (2014) will get the latest Android updates just as fast as Nexus devices; it was one of the earliest handsets to be updated to Android 5.0 lollipop. The new Moto G (2014) delivers rock solid performance, rapid updates and a bloat-free interface at a rock bottom price. In its class it is unbeatable, and it might even make you reconsider forking out for a full-priced flagship when you can get an Android experience this good for this price.
There’s nothing too remarkable about the look of the new Moto G. But sometimes the least interesting surface can conceal truly impressive things beneath, as we saw with the original Moto G. In many ways, the Moto G (2014) is still an OG Moto G at heart, especially in terms of internal components. While the Moto G (2014) specs may seem pretty familiar, the Moto G (2014) price is also the same as its predecessor.
The front of the Moto G has the same molded glass look as the original, but the new version has wide silver stereo speaker grills on the top and bottom of the display. Buttons are in their familiar positions on the right hand side and the back has the same nice curve as that found on the original Moto x and Moto G. There’s a headphone port centered up top and microUSB port on the bottom. The edges of the Moto G are shiny polycarbonate and the back of the Moto G has a nice matte plastic look with a rubberized feel. The battery cover can be removed to provide access to a microSD card slot and dual-SIM card slots. Motorola has introduced a kind of Do-It-Yourself Moto Maker with the new Moto G, with a wide variety of colorful back plate options with which to customize the look of your phone at will.

OPPO FIND 7

The Oppo find 7 was a bit of a surprise this year, with the relatively young manufacturer putting out an incredibly good smartphone that really should make the major OEMs sit up and take notice. Despite appearing with Android 4.3, the Find 7 is a seriously great smartphone, with super fast performance, top-end specs, excellent 13 MP camera and impressive 5.5-inch QHD display. With specs and performance that give the Galaxy Note 3 a real run for its money, the Oppo Find 7 put Oppo on the map of companies to look out for. The Color OS needs a little work, and it desperately needs faster updates, but for what it is, the Find 7 is a very good device. If you like a dark horse or simply want something on the cutting edge of what's new, the Oppo Find 7 may just be the Android for you. It is also available in a non QHD version, the Oppo find 7A.
Although battery life and weight could be improved upon, All in all the find 7 is a great phone and i give it a big thumbs up.

MOTOROLA NEXUS 6

   Considered the Motorola flagship, the nexus 6 was met with wide spread criticism upon its announcement but thankfully it has surpassed all expectations, At first glance it simply looks like an over sized moto x 2014 and most users had expected a brand new design but the disappointment soon dissipated as it was nothing like the Moto x The Nexus 6 is a well crafted phone, it feels great to hold, and has an elegant yet sporty design thanks to the slightly rounded back and the width decreases from top to bottom.
   That being said, we must not forget that the Nexus 6 is extremely large. Even the galaxy note 4 could easily be hidden behind it. The phone is definitely not great for people with small hands, and even someone with larger hands and longer digits must take a long time to get used to it. Easy tasks like reading my news feeds and emails could be done with one hand, but everything required two. This should be clear to all those who are considering buying the Nexus 6, but It was actually quite surprised at how quickly people became accustomed to its large size. Compared to the new arrival, the Nexus 5 appeared almost measly.
   A second point of criticism: the raised stereo speakers unfortunately provide enough spaces for dust particles and dirt, and I felt that fingers didn’t really slide that ergonomically over the display, as was the case with the Nexus 5. There was always a bit of resistance. To be more precise about this problem is difficult, but when using both devices simultaneously, the difference was definitely there. This issue, though small, couldn’t be left untold, though I wouldn’t go as far as to say that swiping on the Nexus 6 keyboard didn’t work problem free either. On the plus side, the Nexus 6 is more resistant to fingerprints, unlike the Nexus 5 where this was a real pesky problem,
   In my opinion though a great phone, the nexus 6 isn't for me and i would not recommend it for anyone.

SONY XPERIA Z3

    Sony presented its latest flagship at IFA 2014 and Sony says it's leading a smartphone revolution, but can the company truly live up to this claim with the latest edition to the Xperia series?
    Sony dropped the Xperia Z3, Six months after it released the Xperia z2. Given this short time frame, the Z3 is certainly not a huge improvement over the Z2, but it is improvement. Internally there's a lot that stays the same between the current and previous model but Sony has made a few key improvements that actually add up to a lot more than the specs sheet might suggest, it is a kind of use and see.
    The Xperia Z3 has had its screen tweaked to produce better results, it has a slightly faster clocked processor, a well thought out design change with metal frame and rubberized plastic corners to act as built-in shock absorbent bumpers and a better waterproof rating. Everything also seems to be running a bit smoother than the Z2. It's probably not enough to make a Z2 owner upgrade, but the Z3 is a seriously good option for anyone thinking about a new phone. In 2013, Sony first presented their trademark Omnibalance design on the Xperia Z, which has defined a clear line for all Xperia smartphones since, including the Xperia Z3. Sony has also continued a tradition of incorporating premium materials, like aluminium and glass, another integral part of their preferred design. Since its first phone in this series, Sony has smoothed out any inconsistencies and proudly presented us with the Xperia Z3.
    The front and back sides made of glass have hardly changed since the Xperia Z, but a lot of changes have been made to the frame, with Sony clearly having listened to user feedback. Now the handset is a lot more pleasant to hold since the edges have been slightly rounded and are mildly convex. Though the effect isn’t quite like the HTC One (M8)’s smooth uni-body, it feels a lot more natural nonetheless. Sony was smart in removing the hard edges from the previous models.
    Despite the arms race in which many other manufacturers are now participating in to incorporate the highest resolutions into their devices, the latest of which is a 2K display on the likes of the Note 4 and the LG G3, Sony stuck with a Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) for its 5.2 inch display. Thanks to the TRILUMINOS and ‘’X-Reality for mobile’’ technologies, the display looks really bright and has good visibility in direct sunlight. The viewing angle is excellent, and photos and videos seem more tangible and natural, without being too over saturated. When the Z2 is compared with the latest edition, both of which have the same resolution, the Z3 is slightly more radiant.
     All in all a great phone which would explain its spot on the top 10 android phones in 2014.

LG G3

The LG G3 is a fantastic device, Which doesn't come as a surprise, from it's excellent design, great battery life, speedy user interface, innovative software features and outstanding camera, it has almost all bases covered. Packing a 5.5-inch QHD display, it was the first widely available Android to feature that screen definition, but it didn't take a hit on battery life due to LG’s clever power optimizations. The LG G3 is a well considered improvement to its predecessor, the underrated LG G2, but improves on several key features that really matter, proving that LG is listening to their critics too.
The LG G3 is one of the best Android smartphones of 2014, standing up very well to the high expectations placed upon it in the lead up to its unveiling a few months ago. We've had a couple of months to get used to the G3's quirks and characteristics and seen it through a recent software update as well. Here's our in-depth LG G3 review to show you what best LG smartphone has to offer. Straight up, the LG G3 is a very good looking smartphone. The screen takes up a huge 76.4% of the front of the device and has very small side bezels. The rear of the G3 is curved to fit more comfortably in your hand, making its rather large footprint less noticeable. The G3 is like a more refined G2, with the same rear-key configuration on the back with slightly larger and easier to use power and volume buttons, and a nice symmetrical placement of the laser auto-focus module and dual-LED flash on either side of the camera lens.
The rear cover is made of a brushed aluminum-look polycarbonate that LG calls ''metallic skin'' and it feels much better than the slippery cover on the G2. This time around though the rear cover is removable, making a removable battery and micro SD card slot a reality. An IR blaster, LED notification light and support for Qi wireless charging round out the list. The device is definitely large and would not suit those with particularly small hands, but the size is really not that noticeable due to the well thought out button placement and curved back panel. The G3 also has a 1 Watt speaker mounted on the back of the device that benefits from the rebounding sound waves between a flat surface and the back of the G3. The sound is solid and loud, but not quite up to HTC's Boom Sound experience. All in all a great phone, no wonder it made its way into the top 10 android smartphones of 2014.

SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4

The Galaxy note 4 has been a truly satisfying release from Samsung, where the Korean giant has done almost everything right: it has continued to focus on the basics, which the company first talked about when they released the Galaxy S5. What Samsung failed to achieve with the S5 it has done fantastically with the Note 4. Samsung is clearly listening to what fans have to say about bloatware and design.
This focus on the basics has endowed the Galaxy Note 4 with an exceptional camera, excellent battery, brilliant screen, great specs, minimal bloatware, revised design and updated Touch Wiz user interface. But the Note series has always been about the S Pen stylus, and the Note 4 has simplified, improved and perfected the S Pen and software that supports it. This is an extremely good phone, although it does comes at a price: around 156,000 naira for an unlocked international version.
The Note 4 in our hands has a black metallic trim with beveled silver edges, giving the Note 4 a very sophisticated appearance. The home button is also given a silver lining, as is the camera lens, flash and heart-rate sensor on the back as well as the S Pen. Everything echoes everything else and the effect is impressive.Even the leatherette plastic battery cover is more subdued and nicely done. While I still don't love it, it's definitely the best faux leather I've seen on a Samsung device so far and it is suitably sticky and feels good enough. The back panel is removable and provides access to the SIM card, microSD slot and removable battery.The back looks like the galaxy 5, with square protruding camera lens, heart rate sensor and LED flash and the speaker grill at the bottom. I guess I can still hope that Samsung will move to a front-mounted speaker at some point in the future.

    Two things quietly make the Samsung Galaxy A3 and A5 stand out: their all-aluminum material and their unibody construction. Following the metal-framed (and plastic-backed) Samsung galaxy alpha and the galaxy note 4, the A5 and A3 represent Samsung's first stab at an all-metal build, and the first of its smartphones to seal in the battery completely. The square-sided handsets look and feel good, similar to the Alpha, or like smaller, more maneuverable versions of the Note 4. They're also on the light side and are noticeably slim, in fact, they're the most svelte Galaxy phones yet. Don't look for any real standout textures or design elements to show off the move to metal; these smooth-backed specimens are understated as far as that goes.
   Since the back cover isn't removable, you'll find the SIM-card and microSD card slots on the right edge. In some countries, a hybrid slot will accommodate either a second SIM or a storage card, just not both at the same time. As mid range phones, you won't find a heart-rate monitor built in with the camera module, Samsung says that sensor is reserved for more premium phones like the galaxy 5, Galaxy Note 4, and Galaxy Alpha.
   You might think that metal casings like these would house equally high-end specs, but the A series is actually defined by mid range specs that target a more youthful demographic. Samsung's market studies revealed that this group isn't fussy about top-flight hardware, but is turning toward the metal trend in a serious way.

SAMSUNG A3

Samsung has been known for churning all-plastic smartphones across its entire portoflio. Pressured to evolve its product design, the company came up with the Galaxy Alpha, a super slim smartphone with an angular metal frame. But Samsung surely likes to spread its design concepts across the entire portfolio and thus the Galaxy A3 and the Galaxy A5 were born. The plastic panels didn't stop millions of users worldwide to choose Samsung's phones over the competitors. It's debatable whether that's due to Samsung's almost exclusive Super AMOLED screens, their R&D hardware advancements or their aggressive approach towards adding new features to Android OS. It's a fact nonetheless. And as you can imagine, you can't go wrong with adding metal to their already winning recipe mix.
It's obvious that with a chip set like that, the Galaxy A3 won't top any performance charts. But it doesn't need to. It's a mid-ranger with a proper quad-core chip, an AMOLED screen and an adequate camera. And that about sums it up.On a positive note, it has a 64-bit processor and a microSD expansion slot, two things the original Galaxy Alpha is short on. Indeed, Android and its app ecosystem is yet to make proper use of 64-bit processors, but we're sure it's only a matter of time. And when the time comes, the Galaxy A3 will be able to benefit from any 64-bit optimizations that come up.

GIONEE M2 REVIEW

The Gionee M2 is like every other smart phone powered by a 1.3GHz quad core processor, but unlike the other handsets, the M2 comes with big battery of 4200 mAh capacity – it lasts really long. The handset comes with 4200 mAh battery, two screen guards, service center list, user guide, warranty card, data cable, earphone and travel charger. The Handset does look attractive with slightly curved edges. Because of a higher battery capacity the handset has gained some weight and thickness. The Gionee M2 is bulky at 198 grams (with battery). Dimensions are 72.29 x 144.01 x 10.88mm. In spite of the weight handset feels good to hold and fits into your hand nicely.
   The side / rear are matte finish. The camera on the rear side is placed way on the top (left) with LED flash. Gionee logo and speaker vent are placed at the back bottom. On the front there are 3 touch buttons for navigation (non back lit they do not light up). 3.5mm audio jack is placed on the top, volume rockers and power button on the right and micro USB port and mic at the bottom.
    This is a dual SIM handset with a Normal SIM (SIM 1) and a Micro SIM (SIM 2) slots.The Display screen is 5 inches with FWVGA (854 x 480) resolution. Touch is good but viewing angles are okay, could have been better. There are good list of sensors – accelerometer, light, magnetic and proximity sensors. WiFi direct and Wireless Display is supported.
   The M2 runs on Android 4.2.2 with Amigo UI. There are some new apps (pre installed) that work with the Amigo UI – Amigo paper and color (Wallpaper / effect / theme).Of the 4GB storage 1.6GB is assigned for apps and 612MB as phone storage. Free RAM on the first boot is 441MB (of the 1GB RAM). Micro SD card is supported; you can move / install apps on external storage. OTG is not supported.

GIONEE 5.5 REVIEW

Gionee is trying hard to make a mark in the smartphone market crowded with various high level players. The company has launched several smartphones. One of these is the Gionee 5.5, the 'world's slimmest smartphone' that was launched in China on 18 March, and in India on 31 March. And can be found all around the world, the company claims the Gionee 5.5 is the 'best engineered product' they have as at the time of launch,
The Gionee 5.5 with its Corning Gorilla Glass display and thin metal chassis looks and feels premium to hold. It also provides good tactile feedback on the power and volume keys both on the left panel. The left hand positioning of the power and volume buttons is good for one hand operation, but awkwardly Gionee decided to put the 3.5mm jack on the bottom, and the Micro-USB charging port on the top to facilitate usage during charging.
The front and back glass covering is similar to what we have seen on the Nexus 4, but in an extra slim body at 5.5mm and a thin aluminum metal chassis that holds everything beautifully. The 5.5 weighs 130 grams, which is little more than the iPhone 5 at 112 grams. The right-side panel of the 5.5 features the rubber-covered SIM-card slot close to the top. Overall, with our first impressions of the 5.5, we were left impressed by its build quality and design as well as handling

This phablet is simply amazing, nice to behold, solid performance and manageable battery life with a great finger print scanner as headline feature, unfortunately some UI issues remain as does the issue of bloatware in its system, coming in as a successor to the ascend mate 2, The ascend mate 7 is smaller in terms of screen size, It measures 6 inches with a full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, compared to that of the mate 2 which is 6.1 inch display. It boasts an aluminum uni-body which brings to mind the HTC one M8, while a rear mounted fingerprint scanner and new look UI round out the headline features, Additionally the micro SD port can be used as a secondary Sim slot for dual Sim functionality. Pricing also isnt bad as it is rather cheap for phones its class.
The Ascend mate 7 not only has a slightly smaller screen than its predecessors but also a thinner screen and fewer screen bezels. Most 6 inch phones are massive in your hands but Huawei has done a marvelous job of reducing the phone size by cutting away excess flab. The handset itself is 157 x 81 x 7.9m while the screen to body ratio is 83% which is ahead of the Samsung galaxy note 4 which boasts a ratio of 80%. Turn the mate 7 and you are greeted with the device's 13mp lens which protrudes slightly from the chassis and the fingerprint scanner, The finger print scanner can be used to awaken the phone on the mate 7 without having to hit the power button first.

The Samsung galaxy S5 grabs your attention at first glance with its looks, It looks good, Performs very well and it is everything you need in almost all aspects of your everyday life, but like an experienced veteran the Samsung GS5 gets where it is today not on flashy features or massive innovations but with wisdom and experience.
With the exception of a few non-essential hardware and software additions such as finger print scanner and heart rate monitor and a few minor tweaks in its design, it is basically the same phone Samsung released in 2013, the S5 is simply an S4 plus but just a little faster and smoother.

DESIGN

The Samsung GS5 incorporates a 5.1 inch screen, Quad core processor, Android 4.4 kitkat OS with a terrific 16 mega pixel camera which makes it well worth snapping up, with a cost of about $650 or 108,000 naira it is simply irresistible and worth every penny.

LIKES
- Samsung GS5 excels in everything that matters,

- Bright beautiful display,
- Quad core processor,
- Excellent camera experience,
- Reduced per-installed bloatware payoff.

DISLIKES
- Its a small upgrade over the galaxy S4,
- Fingerprint scanner can be confusing to the inexperienced user,
- Heart rate monitor is a niche feature at best,
- Costs a little more than other top rated rival handsets.

Bottom line, It is subtly improved and smartly refined, It is a superior phone that meets all expectations except its design.
